Hi, I'm totally new to Apache Friends. I have downloaded XAMPP for Windows 1.4.13 (25 MB Installer), and installed it. The location of installation is "C:\apachefriends\xampp". I run it from "start/Programms/apachefriends/xampp/xampp Basic Start"
"start/Programms/apachefriends/xampp/xampp Basic Restart"
"start/Programms/apachefriends/xampp/xampp httpdoc folder"
"start/Programms/apachefriends/xampp/php switch"
I don't know what to do next. Can somebody help me? I read somewhere to open port 80 (HTTP) and 3306 (MySQL), where I can I set that?
I tried to in the browser "[URLHIDDEN]" and I dont know what's my IP address. Nothing is coming up with this.
In the "XSMPP Control" it says Apache: running, sql: running, FileZillaFTP: stop, Mercury: stop
What should I do next? Please help me!
Thanks

FANTASTIC! Have been wanting to "jump ship" to programming with linux for ages but lacked the experience to get it all working together. XAMPP provided the kick-start I needed....

Hi,
The easiest install I have ever used with Windows XP. I'd tried other packages and just couldn't get them to work. Xampp worked first time. I particularly liked the fact that I can delete it, and re-install it on another drive. Excellent, many thanks!

This package is everything a development environment should be.
It installs so easily you can just get on with actual work, not tweaking config files till the wee small hours.
It's regularly updated, and the updates are also easy to install.
It runs on Windows just as well as Linux.
You guys have done the hard work so I don't have to.

I wondered if your Perl 1.4.12 addon package is working with XAMPP 1.4.13, or do I have to download XAMPP 1.4.12 to use it? Maybe you could clarify this in the next update of your site? Thanks!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents about XAMPP. I spent many hours installing the individual PHP, MySQL and Apache in Linux, never having success. Along comes XAMPP, a simple and carefree installation and setup. It all works flawlessly and allows me to proceed in Linux and leave Windows behind. Thanks for an excellent program.

Even though I try to stop mysql, port-3306 still exists (tried cheking with netstat -a). this happens only when I add Perl Add-on to XAMPP installation.
I dunno what to do... pls suggest

I am an experienced Linux user since 1990. I have to confirm that the quick and easy install of XAMPP is very appealing. Yes, you could do the compile thing for each package and then spend ages tweaking the conf files. Lifes too short! - use XAMPP!
I had no problems with FC3 - works like a charm. Regards - SDS

Hi there, just wanted to say thank you for a simple to install package to set up a local web server. I was up and running in just a few minutes, serving pages from apache with php and mysql running the web site. I appreciate all the effort you guys and gals put into this. Best Regards Steve Robbins.

I want to host my own webpage, using Xampp. How do I import the base files created from the hosting company that my site was hosted on. I have saved all the files to my hard drive and now want to use them with XAMPP...is this possible?
Thu 31 Mar 2005 02:27:30 PM CEST
Hmm, I installed XAMPP on my debian box, and when I put a directory/webpage into htdocs, I need to change the permissions (add write/execute privileges to group) before I can view it over localhost. Is there a way around this problem?

I need to learn PHP and mySQL for job training and since I don't have the wherewithal to obtain extra machines to run Linux, I have been using XAMPP for Windows a little and I *really* like it. What an excellent platform set for self-teaching things like PHP! I'll be developing with this in no time!

This program is the best thing! A cool package, really.
Its really easy to install in W1n 95, 98, 2KAdvancedServer, XP, and in LINUX! (these were the platforms I tested it)
and not only easy.... it WORKS!!
It doesnt hang your machine like E4syPHP, 4pache2Triad, or so.
It really works. The only thing I have to say is> It should have more wizards for the security thing... you know, setting passwords for the FTP, and Mysql things too.
Or an Tutorial, or so for the FTP...
But overall its GrEaT!!
Im 14 years old, and could install it, an CMS, the ftp server, the mail server... in less than 30 mins!!
OK, good luck in this,

the little drop-down Rating thing on the other page just wasn't enough to say.
I've done all this installation-stuff before on other machines, bit by bit following the OS sites' instructions and, without a doubt, this was the cleanest no-goobers install I've had.
Thanks for caring for the end-user so well. I hope you guys are getting rich or big-heads or whatever keeps you trucking.

I'm 100% newbie when it comes to servers, mysql, and linux .. so I am THRILLED that XAMPP is installed, and my 1st application (phpBB2) is working on the server after 3 hours. TERRIFIC !!!
My only complaint is that setting up the SECURITY options seems unintuitive. I went thru the opt/lampp/lampp security interactive app ... and basically locked myself out of mysql via phpMyAdmin. This area needs more thorough documentation.
Other than that ... GREAT !

XAMPP is the best thing since... well, since long! Being a Linux-newbie, I have tried to make a LAMP-server, but I always mess things up. But with XAMPP, it is a breeze, and I get all these nifty extras! So now I will install XAMPP on our uni server!
Btw: any gifs on XAMPP anywhere to be found? Should be nice to have on the website.

Mad props to the apachefriends group. Thanks for all your time and work! I'm new to the web development field and decided to try out XAMPP WINDOWS ver to try out offline to test scripts and miscellaneous self learning experiences. Flawless install on a 128MB USB stick. ;)
The thing is thu, unless I've overlooked it somewhere, there needs to be more security docs about the stuff XAMPP comes loaded with for newbies like myself thu I've found most of what I need to secure everything from google. For example docs about setting up .htaccess and how its used. Also how to create a password for user 'pma' in phpmyadmin w/o locking yourself out like I did the first time. LOL. :P
