Awesome system! I'm a bit frustrated with the lack of SQLite 3 though. How would I go about installing it?

Before Xampp I managed to get Apache, PHP5, and MySql working individually, and then spent hours trying to get PHP5 and MySQL talking. I eventually gave up, and tried Xampp instead. Everything just worked. Thanks for an excellent piece of work.

Thankyou Kai and Kay and your team.
XAMPP is a pleasure to install, I recommend it to anyone wanting to run a web-server on XP Home or any of the other OS's for which a package exists.
It gives you a working set-up first that you can play with, leaving you time to learn all the conf.httpd, php.ini etc .. later and at your own pace. Rather than being forced to learn all that stuff first before you can play with any of it.
=)

After spending the past couple of week constructing a new Linux LAMP system I stumpled upon XAMPP. It's been a long time since I've seen or even heard of such a comprehensive and well thought out product/project. Keep up the good work and I plan to take full advange of this software!

Just realised that I have been running XAMPP for Windows for more than a year now, started with version 1.4.4. Never looked back - great work, thanks.
Tue 02 Aug 2005 02:01:51 AM CEST
It also works on Vidalinux 1.2, which is based on gentoo, so it should work there too

i successfully installed xampp on my Suse 9.3 system and then imported my databases . It all worked well until i activated the security option. PHPmyAdmin would start but not access my tables. I tried to access mysql with the Suse 4.1 client , but it would not connect. I think xampp needs to include the simple text client for fixing user name and password syncronising problems.
{ users pma ,pmad ,root, lampp, xampp } I like the packaging except for the lack of security syncronising .

XAMPP is very usefull/handy. I use it very often. Thx!!
But I didn't find the sources (except PHP scripts in the installation dir).
I think there is a bug when the installation dir contains "spaces" for instance.

Very cool. I'd configured a system perviously with Apache, PHP, and MySQL, and I wasn't looking forward to setting up a system for a friend. Your package made it really simple to set up for her, and now she can begin to learn PHP. Thanks.

Hi! XAMPP is great and very much time-saving, especially on Windows, where you normally do not have package management like apt :)
One minor trouble: I badly needed php 5.0.3 to couple it with the 5.0.3-aware DBG debugger... well, had to download xampplite 1.4.14, 1.4.13, ... now downloading 1.4.12. If that is again with php 5.0.4, I have to try 1.4.... you get my point :) would be nice to have a page with the versions listed for ppl like me.
Keep up the good work!

Some comments on the clarity of the engish windows xampp instructions.
Firstly, It was very easy to do! - worked first time. Great work!.
Some comments:
the 'For all newcomers' section.
You refer to the Install shield version. This is not mentioned anywhere else. I suggest you put 'xampp basic Installer version' instead.
In the Download section - suggest stating which Windows. Al? win 95, 98??
You list 3 versions: installer, zip, self-extrac..
I suggest stating that all 3 contain the same software.
In the installation section:
you mention 'partition' - do you mean directory? (sounds scary!)
step 1a - of the 3 versions, which does 1a apply to? all 3?
1b - same comment
1a and 1b sounds like a sequence of steps: a,b,c,d...
- in fact they are alternatives.
- clarify?
do we need 1c - for the installer version ? here is my effort:
1c - Installation with the @Installer' version
Download the xamp...installer.exe Store in a temporary localtion e.g c:\temp (you can remove it later)
Run the file. Choose your language.
Choose the directory for the installation. The default is c:\apachefriends
After installation is finished - a couple of minutes) - look in the apachefriends directory. You will see some bat files for starting apache and mysql. There is also a directory named htdocs., where you can place your web pages.
To test it:
start apache and mysql with the bat files.
Run a browser - go to [URLHIDDEN]
You will se an xamp welcome page. Follow status link to test, and run an example (e.g the cd one for a php/mysql example)
---
Where is what?
this section mentions minix - why? I suggest deleting minix, replacing with 3 dots ... (the Installer user may think they have gone wrong if they dont see minix).
Please dont think I am being over-critical - I was so pleased it worked, and want to make it even easier!

I have just installed xampp V0.3 on my PowerMac G5. OS X.3.9.
So far everything looks ok. Thanks guys. Great work. One quick note for users. If an error 1 is received during start-up, make sure another version of Apache is not already running.
Cheers

I'm a programming duffer, and I really appreciate what you guys have done with XAMMP. Installation and use have been so pleasant - stuff just works, so I can focus on writing my dumb applications, and not trying to get the server to function properly.
