activation mysql problem

i am trying to activate mysql in the xampp status page , i have downloaded and installed it but im getting an error that says ' This program must be run from your xampp root directory ' , i have it installed on my C drive and i was wondering is this the problem. I have tried the sql deactivated tread but it is still not working anybody have any ideas ? windows vista 32 XAMPP 1.7.4
