Apache Friends Guest Book

Everyone has a guest book. And we also. ;)

I decided to make a very simple form of guest book. With only one text area and no more crap like fields for your email address, name or home page url. Just simple and plain as a real world guest book.

And also like a real guest book: HTML input is not allowed.

And a message to all guest book spammers: URLs in this guest book were automatically removed.

This is only a guest book. If you've questions or need support: Please visit our forum. We don't answer any questions here.

And please, for your own happiness: Don't leave your e-mail addresses in a public guest book. Spammers will love you.

the little drop-down Rating thing on the other page just wasn't enough to say.

I've done all this installation-stuff before on other machines, bit by bit following the OS sites' instructions and, without a doubt, this was the cleanest no-goobers install I've had.

Thanks for caring for the end-user so well. I hope you guys are getting rich or big-heads or whatever keeps you trucking.

I'm 100% newbie when it comes to servers, mysql, and linux .. so I am THRILLED that XAMPP is installed, and my 1st application (phpBB2) is working on the server after 3 hours. TERRIFIC !!!

My only complaint is that setting up the SECURITY options seems unintuitive. I went thru the opt/lampp/lampp security interactive app ... and basically locked myself out of mysql via phpMyAdmin. This area needs more thorough documentation.

Other than that ... GREAT !

XAMPP is the best thing since... well, since long! Being a Linux-newbie, I have tried to make a LAMP-server, but I always mess things up. But with XAMPP, it is a breeze, and I get all these nifty extras! So now I will install XAMPP on our uni server!

Btw: any gifs on XAMPP anywhere to be found? Should be nice to have on the website.

Mad props to the apachefriends group. Thanks for all your time and work! I'm new to the web development field and decided to try out XAMPP WINDOWS ver to try out offline to test scripts and miscellaneous self learning experiences. Flawless install on a 128MB USB stick. ;)

The thing is thu, unless I've overlooked it somewhere, there needs to be more security docs about the stuff XAMPP comes loaded with for newbies like myself thu I've found most of what I need to secure everything from google. For example docs about setting up .htaccess and how its used. Also how to create a password for user 'pma' in phpmyadmin w/o locking yourself out like I did the first time. LOL. :P

Just wanted to say thanks guys, everything's installed and running perfectly in less than 10 minutes. Can take the rest of the day off now and tell the boss it took me ages to install and configure all this :)

Thu 24 Mar 2005 08:13:09 AM CET

Great packaging of all features needed. It is great to have all the configuration issues taken care of. And yes, Tomcat would be great! :-)

I am looking for the USA Version of XAMPP. Is there one?
When I go to the site, it's in a language other than USA English. Any suggestions?

Thu 17 Mar 2005 05:04:53 PM CET

This has been the best thing for my development. I can put up a webserver in seconds with this and show a customer how their website would look, right on their computer. Awesome job. Keep up the good work.

Hi all
This package is beyond good. It bleeping execellent.
You guys are awesome. It took me 3 weeks to explain the benefits to my co-workers without acceptance. With this package, it convinced them in 5 mins.

Many, many thanks..
Keep up the great work.

Mon 14 Mar 2005 09:12:34 AM CET

FYI, the latest package is dated Feb 20, 2004, but I think they mean 2005. ;P

Sun 13 Mar 2005 04:08:17 PM CET

XAMPP localizations:
English / Deutsch / Francais / Nederlands / Spanish / Polish / Chinese...
Good, but WHERE IS THE ITALIAN localization???

Sun 13 Mar 2005 11:45:02 AM CET

Hey, XAMPP is really cool! I can't wait to play with it when I get the time! Cheers! Keep up the good work!

Thu 10 Mar 2005 05:52:24 PM CET

I just couldn't believe that XAMPP delivered its promise: one click to download, one click (almost) to install. Then it's play time.

For people trying to switch from Win to Linux (in work environments), this combination is one of the most crucial to install after the O/S. You have resolved a major stumbling block.

My only wish is to have Tomcat included in the package.

Thank you for such a wonderful job and product.

So, as everyone is saying: It's the worst thing ever ...
No, no, no, just joking. Don't take me serios.
What I mean to say is that this the greatest APM I ever found. On this I am serious. I dunno what more to say. At least not in English. Mayabe I could help you with somethig, if you'd like.
I know Romanian very good (I'm a Romanian), and I also know English very good (Mayabe I can help you with a Romanian translation). So, if you need some help contact me (Yahoo ID and Email: gremy_digitall , with two 'l'). Bye

Mon 07 Mar 2005 12:21:34 AM CET

you guys have made my day.

huh? ummm..... let me say what I really meant to:
YOU GUYS HAVE MADE MY YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!

Its all so well thought-out and configured, that I was speechless on the first try! Everything works perfectly, zero problems, and the fact that its all free/OSS means a lot! Combining xampp with the power that you have already provided (PHP already configured) - the result is FANTASTIC.

Keep up the good work dears, I'll keep checking back here. I've been publicising it as well. Maybe you should have a forum instead of a guest-book, so that users can share their ideas and happiness with each other - but considering that it will lead to n00bs who can't get the app to work asking for help, you did the right thing by not having a forum.

Fri 04 Mar 2005 12:00:04 PM CET

hey..
You guys are great...keep it up!

Fri 04 Mar 2005 08:45:03 AM CET

I just wanted to tell you that this project of yours is one of the best I've seen anywhere - you've really done your homework and made everything nice and streamlined. nice work!

Thanks for the great work on XAMPP folks, I had trouble setting up in Windows and even had trouble with linux when i installed. This has been a time saver. No need to know how to configure now I can just get to work.

Just came to know of Xampp and downloaded it. And have been trying to figure why npobody told me about Xaampp.Nice job , guys. A suggestion:

Bundle up a templating engine for PHP with Xampp, probably Smarty. i think that is the one used most often, i might be wrong though

congrats again, on a novel job and good luck

I am a Developer needing to get started in PHP. I have zero interest in configurring PHP, MySQL and so on. I need a stable, available developemnt platform with an accesible database. I came to Xampp because of endless unsolvable problems setting up PHP and Xampp.
The concept of Xampp is excellent and I greatly appreciate what you are trying to do but I still do not have a workable PHP and Mysql. Yes, it could well be my fault because I am just not interested in set ups; I need to get working.
Why are there multiple choices for downloads?
Why did I have to do 2 downloads before 1 worked? Why do I now have an Apache server that won't start. This is endlessly frustrating.

I am running Debian-Ubuntu (5.0x) Hoary version array-5.
I am far from being a web master guru. Then XAMPP for Linux is perfect for my personal needs and runs perfectly. :-)

I am very thankfull to you guys you are the best!

Wed 23 Feb 2005 03:42:43 AM CET

you people are the best, yet another great and up to date release. Great to see that xampp is now available for the mac platform.

Thanks for providing me with a stable platform to host my own little site.
